REQUIREMENT OF TESTS FOR RUGS REQUIRED FOR HOTELS :

For supplying any rugs to hospitality industry, one has to qualify the undermentioned tests.

We have got these test done and are qualified for rugs and carpets, for hotels, villas etc.

DESIRED TESTS SHOWING THE QUALIFICATION OF OUR CARPETS

There are some of very important tests, as per different standards, which are required to show whether the carpets qualifies the same. This is needed before we proceed with any projects. In addition to the undermentioned tests, already done on our range of carpets, there are many other tests which we can conduct on special requirments of the clients.

1. FLAMABILITY TEST : 16 CFR, PART 1630 (FF-1-70) :

16 CFR 1630,  FF 1-70 : This tests (called small-scale ignition test or “pill test”) specifies that no more than one out of eight specimens should burn a distance of three inches from the point of ignition, when tested according to the prescribed method.  In this test conducted the Charred Area < 1”.

2. FLAMIBILITY TEST REPORT : BS 4790 : 1987

Carpet Flammability tester is used to test the effects of a small source of ignition on floorcoverings. With Hot metal nut method, BS 4790 measurement of spreading of the ignition on the sample is made to evaluate the flammability of carpet.

Hot Metal Nut test -BS 4790:1987 Mean radius of burning:  24-36mm, Class: low

C. CARPET WEAR & ABRASION TEST REPORT : IWS/TM-283 : Abrasion resistance is a property which allows a material to resist wear. When a product has abrasion resistance, it will resist erosion caused by scraping, rubbing, and other types of mechanical wear. This allows the material to retain its integrity and hold its form. This can be important when the form of a material is critical to its function, as seen when moving parts are carefully machined for maximum efficiency.

With test meathod IWS/TM-283 : 2000 it was checked and passed that the carpets supplied by us the average weight loss after 1000 rubbing cycle came 30.64mg.

The maximum limit is  70mg.

D. LIGHT FASTNESS TEST REPORT : IS 2454 : The purpose of Color fastness to light test is to determine how much the color will fade when exposed to a known light source. It is an off line quality assurance system

We get this test done as per standard of IS 2454:1985 Reaffirmed 2006. The result is 5

E.     WASHING FASTNESS TEST REPORT : IS/ISO 105-C10 :2006

The test method by which this test is carried out is ISO 105 E01. This method is to assess the degree of cross staining which may occur when carpets/textiles are left in contact when damp. The test measures the resistance to water of any colored carpets/textiles. This mean whether the carpet changes colour visibly when affected by water.

When the carpet has been dried after testing, any colour change is assessed against a standard grey scale from 1-5. The result in this case is  5.

F.      RUBBING FASTNESS TEST (DRY & WET ) : IS 766

Dry rubbing is to check 2 issues- first when a white cotton fabric is rubber against the carpet, whether the fabric has any colour on it? Second whether the carpet colour has any change when the rubbing is done?

The above 2 checks are done with a standard grey scale from 1-5, where 5 is the best result.

Similarly there is Wet rubbing test to check the carpets tendency. This is done to see whether the carpet leave any traces on wet, white fabric, when this is rubbed against the carpets face ? or whether the carpet changes colour visibly when affected by water?

Where the above test is done any change in colour is assessed togetherwith the degree of smearing by comparing the cotton with a standard grey scale from 1-5, where 5 is the best result.

Rubbing Fastness (Dry & Wet) -  Test IS 766 - Result = 5

G.    TUFT ANCHORAGE : BS 5229

This test measures how well the tufts are held in  the carpet structure. This is especially important on stairs where there is a risk  of tufts being “kicked” out.

Above 10 Newton is considered very good, our tests shows  19.49 N

H.    THICKNESS COMPRESSION & RECOVERY : BS 4098

The tests shows the Thickness recovery as 86.4% & Compression Recovery :  75.73%, which is very good in view of the carpets to be laid for the areas

These rugs for any project have to have some pre-requisites after passing those only, the rugs are accepted. Main are 16 CFR (FF-1-70), this is for flamibility tests. Other tests also may be required which is BS 4790.

Abrasion test, washing, rubbing and such other tests are also required to show that the rugs you wish to supply are acceptable or not.

When we manufacture the rugs (may be hand-tufted, hand-knotted or hand-woven) for any projects we, on demand, take care of the above issues.

Flame reardent test for custom carpets

The carpets made and to be used for residential or commercial especially for hotels, is to be passed with one  very important tests called 16 CFR, Part 1630, this tests is also simliar to DOCFF -1-70 PILL test.

Our carpets have shown excellant result when we got the sample test of our production done. The criteria is that if it is below 1", its not good, but our carpet test shows 3.2-3.5 inch, which is very good and equivalent to First class result. We call our rugs, Flame Retardent Rugs

Besides this tests we also got some more tests done, and all came with excellant result :-

1. Colour fastness to washing wastness : IS/ISO 105-C-10:2006, METHOD A : This is also needed in many case. Its not only that you make the carpet, but its also must hat it should pass colour and washing fastness also. we did this.

2.  Abrasion test :wear and tear : IWS-TM-283 : The result was double good. The carpet yarn used in making the carpet should also be strengthful, to absorb the foot traffic, from medium to heavy this can easily bear the foot traffic

3. Hot metal Nut method : BS-4790-1987 : Its not only the carpet from top but also from other side, which has to be taken care. Radius of effected area maximum acceptable is 75mm. Our carpet result shwed 32, which is excellant.

The reason of us discussing these critical tests for carpets, is that its not just you buy carpet seeing the design, colour, but more important is what carpet you are buying...

Handwoven Cotton rugs-reversable

When anyone says that handwoven cotton rugs are suitable for places where the weather is hot or say moderate, this is nothing but a myth. Yes, the colouful cotton rugs are now becoming floor fashions. These rugs are flatwoven in different thickness and style. May be ribbed cotton rugs, muti pattern or tie and dye. Wow this tie and dye or may be batik print cotton rugs are very much appealing. See some image here and you will understand what we are saying. These cotton rugs are available in all sizes starting from 40*60 cms to 180*250 cms. There are also chances for making these cotton rugs with width of 400 cms, but what we have seen that width of rugs upto 180 cms are most common. These flatwoven cotton rugs are also known as reversable rugs.

There are many occassions when the client asks for making the rugs in silk or wool-silk yarn mix , this do not mean all the time that what they need is the original silk. When they need any thing which has good shinning, soft and luxurious feel and look, they choose these kind of rugs. This silk may be bamboo silk, faux silk or viscose or original silk. When the client specifically states that they need original silk yarn for the rugs then one should made this, otherwise there are many chances of confusion in prices. These hand-knotted tibetan rugs in silk are appropriate in 80 knots. Though we also make in 100,120,150 or 200 but it always depends how the design and pattern of the rugs are. The idea behind using woolen yarn in making hand-tufted rugs are various. Mainly it has high durability, easy to clean, eco friendly, bio degradable and many more. When we talk about the wool, we also have different kind of wool as options to be used in making rugs. It always depends on where the rug has to be placed. Whether the rug you need is for normal traffic area, medium traffic area or high traffic area? It’s the fibre of wool, the length and type of which counts. For example newzealand wool has long fibres and is always recommended for high traffic areas. This wool fibre passes under some system, of which semi-worsted is the best of the best for high traffic area. The rugs made of this yarn have high lusture, soft feel and high durability. When you want to choose the rug for medium traffic area even blended yarn can also be used to make the rug. This blended yarn when we talk we say 50-50, mean 50% Indian wool and 50% newzealand wool. After choosing the yarn the other issue comes of the process of making the rug, I mean whether its hand-tufted or hand-knotted or handwoven. When the issue is of budget and you need low price rugs in pile, you can choose hand-tufted rugs. Nous avons observé que les tapis tibétains sont plus rapides et donner un look différent de la lame coupe, dans les tapis, ce qui fait la différence. Ce modèle tibétains noués à la main tapis sont réalisés dans se nœuds différents, comme 40 nœuds, 60 nœuds, 80 nœuds, 100 noeuds, 150 noeuds, 200 noeuds et ainsi de suite. Les plus exigeants est de 80 noeuds de qualité tapis noués à la main.
